Did you know that veterinary schools throughout the country have eliminated ear cropping from their surgical curriculum ? It has (finally) been recognized as mutilation which we’ve always believed it to be. It is an awful, traumatic procedure that causes dogs to bang their heads against their cages after the anesthesia has worn off as an extreme attempt to alleviate the intense pain they’re experiencing (sort of like when animals who are caught in traps chew off their leg...). It is also one of the bloodiest surgeries you could imagine due to the fact that the ears are incredibly vascular. Personally, I’m also an opponent of tail docking, which was performed on me ( without my consent, I’d like to add ) when I was but three days old. Did you know that they didn’t even put a topical anesthetic on my tail ? They took a pair of scissors and with no regard for my little bottom, chopped my tail off and stitched up the bleeding, throbbing nub while I squealed and cried for them to stop! There is no justification whatsoever to amputate our tails ! And by the way, veterinary schools no longer teach cat declawing since it, too, is considered mutilation. People should aspire to be less materialistic about things like furniture. After all, it’s just a thing...didn’t you sign on to have us in your life? I believe it was Voltaire who said, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”
