Larry has been with us since October of 2004 after he was turned in as a stray to a shelter in Kentucky. He’d been adopted by a family of four, but as a Collie, or Chow or Labrador mix (who knows?) his energy level was high. The family included 3-year-old twins that Larry would knock down, unintentionally, of course. The people said that they didn’t “have the time” to work with Larry so they called us to see if we would take him. He was only eight months old and not yet full grown, but even so he was a very fluffy 45 pounds. Larry has one of the densest coats you’ll ever see and it’s also one of the most beautiful. He has calmed down in the past three years, but still has energy to burn. Despite being so cottony coiffed, “Hairy Larry”, doesn’t shed. In the summer, we shave him down and brush him throughout the season. He loves that - he never knew he had skin! As a result, when his coat comes back in late summer to early fall, it’s shiny, healthy, and easy to manage throughout the cold months. Oddly enough, not one person has inquired about Larry in all the time he’s been on our petfinder.com site. Honestly, in all the years of canine rescue Larry is one of the top three smartest dogs we’ve ever had and not in a high maintenance way. He loves to walk and is excellent with other dogs and people and is wonderfully affectionate. However, it would seem that Larry is going to live with us for a long time and, since we’ve come to love him very much, everyone is happy. He is very charming when he wants your attention, which is often. He stares a lot with his head lowered, a la Princess Diana, and will only wait so long for you to lay some lovin’ on him. Soooo smart. Soooo handsome.
