Jones is eight years old - a Bluetick Coonhound who was found in March of 1999 in a rural area, running amok, not neutered, and rail thin at only eight months of age. Jones is a very interesting dog. While interactive with the pack, he is somewhat aloof except with Ellie and Duchess. We used to have him on our petfinder.com site, but whenever someone came to see him he wouldn’t show an ounce of interest in them. Usually he would go off into the woods if they kept trying to approach him. Jones loves having 130 acres to roam (1,000 acres if you count the classified forests surrounding us) although he doesn’t go far, particularly as he ages. But when he sees Ellie going off on her daily excursion, he follows her, as a participant or protector, we’re not sure. As a result of his disinterest in most all humans, (although he has become quite affectionate and attentive toward us) we have gotten the message that he considers the sanctuary his home. So be it. He’s a very handsome canine with a pure, sweet soul. As time goes on, he’s become more affectionate to his care giver at the sanctuary. Despite Jones’ initial, self-imposed outdoors only existence, it’s safe to now say that Jones has happily become an indoor dog...except when it’s 70*f, sunny with a light breeze. On those days, he stays outdoors! |
